SPORTS/BEGINNER DIVISIONS

SINGLE A DIVISION
OPEN TO ANY AGE - MAY ENTER Y-DIVISION AS WELL
For the Single A contestants: 2-minute final freestyle to perform a routine synchronized to their choice of music.
NOTE: Those competing in the Single A Divisions cannot take part in the Sport Ladder.

The timer starts when the music starts. No points will be scored for tricks done before the music starts, or after the 1-minute mark for preliminaries or 2-minute mark for the finals.

All music must be considered appropriate for all audiences. Performers with inappropriate music (obscenities, offensive content, etc.) will be disqualified. If you are unsure about your music, a judge will be available to listen to your music and make sure it is appropriate.

Music must be provided on a CD or CD-R. The disc must be clearly labeled as to the track to be used, contestant's name, and division the contestant is competing in.

Music burned to CD-R must be in standard audio CD format or converted to standard audio CD format to play in any standard CD player.

Mini-Disc, MDLP, CD-RW, and DVD formats are not acceptable. Compressed format (like MP3, WMA, AAC, etc.) audio files are not acceptable. Incompatability issues from burned CD's, scratched CD's, or other problems are the players responsibility. If you have a music question or are unsure of compatability, check beforehand.

All musical CD's must be provided to the sound manager prior to the start of the freestyles for any division that a player is competing in. The CD must be clearly labeled with the players name and the track to be used.

Music must be in one track. Music extended over 2 tracks or over 2 media is not acceptable. Music in the preliminary will be stopped between 1:00 and 1:01. Music in the final will be stopped between 2:00 and 2:01. Music less than the allotted time will be stopped after 1 track played.

If the music is stopped accidentally, the contestant may choose to continue his or her performance from the point that the music stopped or restart their performance at the end of the division.

All actions of a performer must take into account the safety of the audience, the facility, the judges, and the player. Judges have the ability at any time to disqualify a performer for behavior they deem dangerous or inappropriate.

While performing, only the contestant can be on the stage. Contestants can only use articles that they brought on stage. Contestants cannot use any yo-yo's passed to the stage by others.

Freestyle Judging - Finals
Freestyle scores will be based on the accumulated point total of two components: Technical Exectution and Performance Style.
A net score will be calculated for each contestant based on the algebraic sum of the plus and minus scores as determined below.
Technical Execution - approximately 85% of total score
Positive points may be awarded for advanced level tricks performed successfully, including string hits, pops, wraps, transitions, regenerations, release catches, whip catches, and other yo-yo maneuvers. The styles of tricks should be representative of the division in which the player is competing. Tricks, which a contestant has already completed, will not be scored in a second attempt.
Additional points may be awarded for difficulty, originality, long sequences on same spin, extreme amplitude of a maneuver, and similar yo-yo moves.
Negative points may be deducted for trick misses, loss of control, and restarts. The substitution of a yo-yo for another will count as a multiple deduction if the yo-yo string becomes jammed or knotted. Generally a single point deduction is taken for each miss, loss of control, unsuccessful bind, or similar error. Two points are generally deducted for rewinding/restarting the yo-yo. Three points are deducted for changing out a yo-yo.
No points shall be awarded for any tricks or antics done before the start of the 2-minute freestyle or after the three minutes has elapsed.
Performance Style - approximately 15% of total score
A contestant, while performing advanced level trick elements, may earn points for, but not limited to:

Crowd reaction, entertaining antics, or other elements, which occur when not performing with a yo-yo, do not add to the performance style points.
Final Score
The total points accumulated from the combination of technical and performance points (minus any deductions) will be independently normalized for each judge. High and low scores will be thrown out, the middle scores will be averaged to reach the players final score.
Ties will be broken based on which contestant has the highest preliminary score. In the extremely unlikely event that there is still a tie, the judges have the ability to devise an appropriate tiebreaker, or can declare a tie. The judge's decision is final.

Y DIVISION
